Expert Care for Thyroid Health
Whether you have a suspicious nodule, a large goiter, or a cancer diagnosis, we provide precise surgical treatment focused on safety and recovery.
Small Gland, Big Impact
The thyroid is a butterfly-shaped gland in your neck that controls your metabolism. While essential for health, it can develop structural problems that require surgery.
At California Surgical Specialists, we treat the full spectrum of thyroid disorders. We understand that neck surgery can be anxiety-inducing, which is why we prioritize minimally invasive techniques to keep incisions small and hidden in natural skin creases.

Conditions We Treat
A. Benign (Non-Cancerous) Conditions
Thyroid Nodules
Lumps within the thyroid. While most are benign, surgery is recommended if they are large, causing difficulty swallowing, or suspicious for cancer.
Goiter
An overall enlargement of the gland. Large goiters can compress the windpipe (trachea), causing shortness of breath.
Hyperthyroidism (Graves' Disease)
When the thyroid produces too much hormone and medication fails, removing the gland provides a permanent cure.
B. Thyroid Cancer
Papillary & Follicular Carcinoma
The most common types, which have a very high cure rate with surgical removal.
Medullary & Anaplastic Carcinoma
More aggressive forms requiring extensive surgical planning and lymph node dissection.
Accurate Diagnosis Before Surgery
High-Resolution Ultrasound
To map the anatomy of the nodule.
FNA Biopsy (Fine Needle Aspiration)
We use a tiny needle to sample cells from the nodule to determine if it is benign or cancerous before we operate.
Protecting Your Voice & Calcium
Thyroid surgery requires extreme precision because the gland sits on top of the Recurrent Laryngeal Nerve (which controls your voice) and the Parathyroid Glands (which control calcium).
Intraoperative Nerve Monitoring (IONM)
We use advanced technology to monitor the function of your vocal nerve in real-time throughout the surgery, significantly reducing the risk of voice changes.
Total Thyroidectomy
Removal of the entire gland (often for cancer or Graves' disease). You will take a daily hormone pill afterward.
Thyroid Lobectomy
Removal of only half the gland. In many cases, the remaining half can produce enough hormone so you don't need daily medication.
Minimal Scarring, Rapid Recovery
The Incision:
We place the incision low in the neck, often in a natural skin wrinkle. We use plastic surgery closure techniques so that once healed, the scar is often barely visible.
The Timeline:
Most patients go home the same day or stay just one night. You can eat and talk immediately after surgery. Most people return to work in 1–2 weeks.
Surgical Expertise Matters
The complication rate of thyroid surgery is directly related to the experience of the surgeon. Dr. Abidali and Dr. Qureshi are trained in the delicate anatomy of the neck, ensuring that the cancer or goiter is removed safely while preserving the critical nerves and glands that impact your quality of life.
