Quick & Comfortable Removal of Lumps and Bumps

Expert surgical excision of lipomas, cysts, and soft tissue masses. Performed safely in our office with a focus on minimal scarring.

You Don't Have to Live with It

Most skin lumps are benign (non-cancerous). However, they can continue to grow, become infected, cause pain when pressing on nerves, or simply affect your confidence.

At California Surgical Specialists, we offer in-office surgical removal for most of these conditions. Unlike "popping" a cyst at home (which leads to infection and recurrence), our surgical approach ensures the entire mass and its sac are removed, preventing it from coming back.

Common Conditions We Treat

Lipomas (Fatty Tumors)

What they are:

Soft, movable lumps made of fat cells that sit just under the skin.

Why treat them:

While harmless, they can grow quite large and become uncomfortable if they press on muscles or sit under bra straps or belt lines.

Our Approach:

We make a small incision and remove the fatty tissue in one piece. For larger lipomas, we ensure no tissue is left behind to prevent regrowth.

Sebaceous & Epidermal Cysts

What they are:

Closed sacs under the skin filled with cheese-like material (keratin). They often appear on the back, neck, or face.

Why treat them:

If ruptured, they become red, swollen, and painful (infected).

Our Approach:

Complete Sac Excision. Simply draining a cyst isn't enough—the "sac" or wall must be surgically removed, or the cyst will almost certainly fill up again.

Pilonidal Cysts

What they are:

A painful cyst found near the tailbone (coccyx) that can easily become infected (abscess).

Why treat them:

They cause severe pain when sitting and often drain fluid.

Our Approach:

We perform specialized procedures to drain the infection and remove the sinus tract to promote deep healing.

Skin Tags & Moles

What they are:

Raised flaps of skin or pigmented spots.

Our Approach:

We remove these for cosmetic reasons or if they are constantly snagged by clothing. Note: All removed tissue is sent to pathology to confirm it is not cancerous.

Simple, In-Office Treatment

For most cysts and lipomas, you do not need to go to a hospital. We perform these procedures in our comfortable treatment rooms.

Local Anesthesia

We numb the area completely with lidocaine. You will be awake but feel no pain.

Precision Removal

Dr. Abidali or Dr. Qureshi makes a minimal incision—often hidden in natural skin creases—to carefully dissect the mass.

Cosmetic Closure

We use fine sutures (stitches), often placed underneath the skin surface, to ensure the resulting scar is a fine, faint line.

Back to Work

The entire appointment usually takes 30–45 minutes. You can typically drive yourself home and return to work immediately.

Why Not Just See My Primary Doctor?

While many doctors can "drain" a lump, a General Surgeon is trained in anatomy and tissue planes.

Deep Masses

Some lipomas grow deep into the muscle. A surgeon can safely remove these without damaging nerves or blood vessels.

Preventing Recurrence

We are trained to remove the entire capsule/sac, which is the only way to stop a cyst from coming back.

Aesthetics

We use plastic surgery suturing techniques to minimize scarring.
