Specialized Care for Colorectal Health
Expert diagnosis and surgical treatment for cancer, diverticulitis, and IBD. Led by a Double-Board Certified Colorectal Surgeon.
Why Choose a Board-Certified Specialist?
Many surgeons perform colon surgery, but a Board-Certified Colorectal Surgeon has completed advanced fellowship training specifically focused on the treatment of the colon, rectum, and anus.
Dr. Sana Qureshi brings this elite level of expertise to California Surgical Specialists. Whether you are facing a cancer diagnosis or chronic diverticulitis, our team combines deep anatomical knowledge with the latest robotic and minimally invasive techniques to ensure the safest, most effective outcome.

Comprehensive Colorectal Care
We provide surgical solutions for both benign and malignant conditions of the lower digestive tract.
Colorectal Cancer
Colon Cancer:
Surgical removal of the cancerous section of the colon (colectomy). We focus on removing the cancer with clear margins while reconnecting the bowel to preserve normal bathroom function.
Rectal Cancer:
A complex condition requiring precise surgery to remove the tumor while sparing the sphincter muscles whenever possible to avoid a permanent colostomy bag.
Diverticulitis
Inflammation or infection of small pouches (diverticula) in the colon wall.
Surgical Solution:
For patients with recurrent attacks or complications (perforation/abscess), we remove the diseased portion of the colon to prevent future infections.
Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)
Crohn's Disease & Ulcerative Colitis: We work closely with gastroenterologists to manage these chronic conditions. Surgery is reserved for cases where medication fails or complications arise, such as strictures or fistulas.
Rectal Prolapse
A condition where the rectum slips out of the anus. We perform Robotic Rectopexy to secure the rectum back into its proper position.
Faster Recovery with Robotic Surgery
Traditional colon surgery often required a large vertical incision from the pubic bone to the ribcage. Today, Dr. Qureshi utilizes the da Vinci® Surgical System.
Tiny Incisions
The surgery is performed through small ports.
Precision
The robot allows for precise dissection in the narrow space of the pelvis (crucial for rectal cancer).
Quick Return to Bowel Function
Minimally invasive techniques stress the body less, meaning the digestive system "wakes up" faster after surgery.
Short Hospital Stay
Many patients go home in 2–3 days, compared to a week or more with open surgery.
Prevention Starts with Screening
Colorectal cancer is highly preventable. We strongly advocate for screening colonoscopies starting at age 45 (or earlier with family history).
Polyp Removal:
Most cancers start as benign polyps. Finding and removing them during a colonoscopy prevents cancer before it starts.
Genetic Counseling:
For patients with a strong family history (Lynch Syndrome, FAP), we offer specialized surgical planning to manage high risk.
Your Surgical Pathway
ERAS Protocol:
We use "Enhanced Recovery After Surgery" protocols. This means we avoid prolonged fasting before surgery and get you moving and eating shortly after surgery to speed up healing.
Stoma Care (Ostomy):
While our goal is always to reconnect the bowel, some complex cases require a temporary or permanent stoma (colostomy/ileostomy). Our team provides specialized education and support to help you live a full, active life with an ostomy.
